Elite Rugby player Molly has recently been called up to play for the Welsh Rugby Union's women's team in the Six Nations tournament. She is also a craft apprentice with SP Energy Networks. Find out more about how she is able to pursue her careers both on and off the field.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship with ScottishPower?

I chose ScottishPower because of their commitment to supporting the next generation of talent in the engineering sector, ScottishPower also encourages women to consider pursuing a career in the industry.

How did you join the apprenticeship programme?

The company offers apprenticeship and trainee programmes at a range of entry levels, from age 16 upwards. I took an interest when ScottishPower sponsored my rugby team – at that time I played for the women’s Rygbi Gogledd Cymru (RGC) rugby team. I made the move to Waterloo Ladies at the start of the season but will never forget my roots.

I come from Anglesey in North Wales and I applied for a space on the SP Energy Networks craft apprenticeship programme in 2018, aged 18, I plan to continue my rugby career with RGC whilst carrying out my craft apprenticeship. I’ve also recently been called up to play for the national Welsh Rugby Union’s women’s team in this year’s Six Nations tournament.

What attracted you to the engineering sector?

I’ve always wanted to work in engineering and to have been accepted to work with SP Energy Networks as a craft apprentice is a great opportunity. It’s extremely encouraging to see the work that SP Energy Networks does to support women in the engineering industry, and it’s great to be a part of their team.

Would you recommend your apprenticeship to a friend and why?

Yes, I would.
